Warriors Finish in Ninth Place At State for Cross Country

FRESNO, Calif. -  The El Camino College men's cross country team finished in a respectable 9th place over the weekend at the CCCAA State Championships held at Woodward Park.

The Warriors were ranked the 5th best southern california team heading into the meet but finished sixth among southern california teams and behind three strong northern california schools.  The Warriors had to overcome numerous ailments and injuries leading up into the final weekend of the season.

Manny Gil led the Warriors with a 36th overall place and a time of 21:33.  Gil also ran with a blister after the first mile marker. Michael Yaskowitz came in 43rd place with a time of 21:40 despite dealing with shin splints.  Jonathan Cruz stepped up and came in a solid 48th place with a time of 21.45. The normal third finisher on the team, Farooq Tariq, came in 67th place with a time of 22:00 despite running with a bad cold.  Yahia Liban was the fifth finisher for the Warriors coming in 88th place with a time of 22:14. Faizan Darsot came in 135th place with a time of 22:57 and Christien Moreno came in 157th place with a time of 23:49.

Carmen Hernandez came in 119th place overall in the women's race with a time of 21:35.
