Gil Leads Men's Cross Country in Win at Palomar Invitational

OCEANSIDE, Calif. - Last year's CCCAA state runner up, the El Camino College men's cross country team, continued right where they left off after winning the Palomar Invitational for a second year in a row on Friday, September 6th.  

Sophomore and one of the few returners on this seasons team, Manny Gil won the 4-mile men's race.  

The field included some strong Southern California competition in Riverside, Cuyamaca, Saddleback, Santa Ana. 

The men's team narrowly defeated Riverside College by 4 points, 34 to 38.  The Warriors had the top three finishers in the race. Manny Gil came in 1st place with a time of 21:15, Michael Yaskowitz came in 2nd place with a time of 21:45, and Farooq Tariq came in 3rd place with a time of 21:49.  Jonathan Cruz came in 5th place with a time of 22:00 and Christian Moreno wrapped up the top 5 for the Warriors by coming in 23rd place with a time of 23:33.  

On the women's side, Carmen Hernandez came in 7th place overall in the field of 100 runners with a time of 20:49.  

The Warriors will head back down to San Diego this weekend to compete in the Southern California Preview Invitational in Mission Bay where almost all of the Southern California teams will be competing.
