Men and Women Qualify for CCCAA State Championships

CERRITOS, Calif. - Both of El Camino Colleges' cross country teams have qualified for the CCCAA State Championships after friday's Southern California Regional Championships held at Don Knabe Park in Cerritos, Calif.

The El Camino College men's team once again came in second place behind Mt. Sac for the third time in consecutive weeks.  The women's team came in 11th place and finished with the Top 14 places to ensure the team qualfied for the CCCAA State Championships.

After some close battles during the season, Mt. Sac easily won the men's race this time with a score of 59 and an average time of 19:50.   Salvador Capetillo of Mt. Sac dominated the race by nearly 40 seconds ahead of second place finisher Carson Bix.  Bix narrowly edged out three runners by less than second two to finish in second place with a time of 19:40.3.  Ethan Comeaux was the next finisher for El Camino and the last runner to finish under 20:00 minutes.  Comeaux came in 13th place with a time of 19:59.  Manny Gil was the third finisher for the Warriors and came in 15th place with a time of 20:01.  Matt Arruda came in 21st place with a time of 20:10 and Caleb Ko rounded out the top 5 finishers in 46th place with a time of 20:37.  El Camino College held onto second place with 97 points and an average time of 19:05 while third place San Diego Mesa finished with 109 points. 

The women's team just needed to come within the top 14 places to qualify for state and succeeded by comg in 11th place.  Savannah Sehenuk was the top finisher for El Camino and came in 34th place with a time of 19:24.  Sarah Simpson was second for the Warriors in 43rd place with a time of 19:43.  Grace Hoffman came in third for the Warriors in 48th place with a time of 19:50.  Hoffman led the Warriors last week at the same course and finished over one minute ahead last week.  Deana Takaoka was 4th for the Warriors in 70th place with a time of 20:26.  Carmen Hernandez rounded out the top 5 finishers by coming in 104th place with a time of 21:37

The Warriors will have a weekended off to prepare for the CCCAA State Championships held at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif.  The race is on November 17th, 2018 and they will compete against 21 of the state's top teams.
