Men Second, Women Fourth at South Coast Conference Finals

CERRITOS, Calif. - The #2 ranked team in the state, El Camino men's cross country team finished in second place at the South Coast Conference Finals, while the women's team finished in fourth place.  

Both teams have qualified to the Southern California Regional Championships

In the men's race, El Camino came in second place to Mt. Sac by 8 points (37 to 45).  Salvador Capetillo of Mt. Sac came in first place with a time of 19:48. Carson Bix was narrowly edged for second place and finished third place with a time of 20:05:9, right behind LA Harbor's Ariel Conde who finished at 20:05:8.   Manny Gil came in 4th place right behind Bix with a time of 20:12. Ethan Comeaux came in 6th place for the Warriors with a time of 20:18. Matt Arruda was the fourth ECC finisher with a time of 20:39 coming in 13th place. Victor Akende rounded out the top 5 finishers with a time of 21:06 and came in 20th place.  By coming in the top seven spots, Bix, Comeaux, and Gil were all named to the All-SCC First Team. Matt Arruda was named to the second team.

In the women's race, LA Harbor and Mt. Sac dominated the top two spots.  El Camino came in two points behind Chaffey College with a score of 88, compared to the Panthers 86.  Brenda Rosales Coria of LA Harbor won the 5K race with a time of 17:44. Grace Hoffman came in 6th place to lead the Warriors with a time of 18:40.  Savannah Sehenuk came in second for the Warriors in 13th place with a time of 19:23. Sarah Simpson came in third for the Warriors in 17th place with a time of 19:50.  Deana Takaoka was the fourth finisher for the Warriors with a time of 20:23, good for 23rd place. Carmen Hernandez rounded out the top-5 finishers for El Camino with a time of 21:39 and came in 32nd place. By placing in the top seven spots, Grace Hoffman was named to the All-SCC First Team.  Sehunuk was named to the All-SCC Second Team.

Both teams will compete at the Southern California Regional Championships held at the same course, Cerritos Regional Park on Friday, November 2nd The top 14 teams from each race will qualify for the CCCAA State Championships.  The women's race is scheduled to start at 10:00 AM while the men's race is scheduled to start at 11:00 AM.
