Men Place Second, Women Place Fourth at Mt. Sac Invitational

WALNUT, Calif. - In what should be a challenging battle over the coming weeks, the first showdown between the top two programs in the state went to the Mt. Sac Mounties over the El Camino men's cross country team on Mt Sac's home course.  In a race that featured 14 different schools, Mt. Sac came in first place with 28 points, while El Camino came in a close second place with 36 points. In the women's race that featured 9 different schools, the El Camino womens' cross country team came in a solid 4th place.  

In the men's race, Salvador Capetillo of Mt. Sac won by over 40 seconds by coming in at 20:33.  El Camino had the second and third place runners in Carson Bix and Ethan Comeaux. Bix finished second with a time of 21:13 and Comeaux came in third with a time of 21:17.  The Mounties were able to get the 5th, 7th, 8th, and 11th places to round out their top 5 runners. Manny Gil was the third fastest finisher for the Warriors and came in 9th place with a time of 21:40.  Caleb Ko and Matt Arruda rounded out the top-5 finishers for the Warriors coming in 12th and 13th place. Ko and Arruda both finished with times of 21:56.

In the women's race, Grace Hoffman continued her solid freshman season and led the Warriors with a 9th place finish and a time of 19:44.  Sarah Simpson was the next finisher for El Camino at 17th place with a time of 20:53. Deana Takaoka was third for the Warriors in 23rd place with a time of 21:14.  Savannah Sehenuk was fourth for the Warriors in 30th place with a time of 21:25. Carmen Hernandez rounded out the top 5 finishers for the Warriors with a time of 22:24 and came in 39th place.

The Warriors will have a weekend off before the South Coast Conference Championships held at the Cerritos Regional Park on Friday, October 26th.
