Men Win Second Straight Race, Women Place 6th at Southern California Preview Invitational

CERRITOS, Calif. - The El Camino men's cross country team continued their impressive start to the season after winning the Southern California Preview Invitational on Friday morning.

The races serve as a preview of the course for the Southern California regional championships.  The men came in first place via an NCAA tie break rule after tying San Diego Mesa with 90 points.  35 different colleges were presented with only the #1 ranked (men) and #2 ranked (women) Mt. Sac sitting out the race.  In the women's race, El Camino came in 6th place.

Fresh off his win from last week, Carson Bix once again came in first place in the men's 4-mile race that had 313 runners.  Bix finished with a time of 20:01 beating the 2nd place finisher by seven seconds who came in at 20:08. Ethan Comeaux and Manny Gil had back to back finishes once again.  Comeaux came in 10th place with a time of 20:28 and Gil came in 11th place with a time of 20:32. Matt Arruda was the fourth ECC finisher and came in 25th place with a time of 20:58.  Victor Akende was the fifth finisher for ECC and came in 43rd place with a time of 21:12. Caleb Ko was the 6th fastest finisher for the men and came in 56th place with a time of 21:23.  

Grace Hoffman led the women to finishing in 6th place in the women's 5K.  Hoffman finished in 20th place with a time of 19:37. Savannah Sehenuk came in 30th place with a time of 20:08.  Sarah Simpson came in at 34th place with a time of 20:22. Carmen Hernandez came in 50th place with a time of 20:53.  Deana Takaoka rounded out the top 5 finishers for ECC at 57th place and a time of 21:12.

The Warriors will next race at the Golden West Invitational on Friday, September 21st at Central Park in Huntington Beach, Calif.
