Men Take First Place, Women Take Second Place at Palomar Invitational

OCEANSIDE, Calif. - El Camino College Cross Country teams started the season on a high note at the Palomar Invitational.  

The men took first place overall in dominating fashion, and the women's team took second place.  The women ran a 5K course while the men's team ran a 4-mile course. The women's race featured a couple teams from last year's CCCAA state championship including 2nd place (Cuyamaca), 7th place (Riverside),  and 12th place (Saddleback). The men's race also featured teams from last year's CCCAA State Championship including 2nd Place (Riverside) and 17th place (Cuyamaca).  

Eight of the mens runners placed within the top 15 spots in the men's race.  Carson Bix led the way and won the men's race with a time of 21:00. Newcomers Manny Gil (21:14) and Ethan Comeaux (21:37) took fourth and fifth place.  Matt Arruda came in 7th place with a time of 21:45. Victor Akende (21:54) and Caleb Ko (21:59) took 9th and 10th place consecutively. Alberto Aguilar (22:03) and Michael Yaskowitz (22:09) also placed within the top 15 by coming in 13th and 15th place respectively.  

In the women's race, Savannah Sehenuk led the Warriors with a 10th place finish, clocking in at 20:33.  Grace Hoffman came in right behind her in 11th place with a time of 20:36. Sarah Simpson came in 13th place with a time of 20:49.  Deana Takaoka came in 23rd place at 21:47 and Carmen Hernandez rounded out the top five for El Camino with a time of 22:07.

The Warriors return to action on Friday, September 14th at Cerritos Regional Park.  The women's race is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM and the men's race is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM.
