The El Camino College cross country squad began the 2017 campaign Saturday morning at the Biola Invitational hosted by Biola University.

The meet featured a solid field in both the men's and women's races with 15 full and partial NAIA and NCAA Division III squads participating in the action.

The Warriors men placed 4th overall with freshman Carson Bix (West Torrance) running a solid 25:50 for 7th place on the 8k (5-mile) course. Freshman teammates Michael Yaskowitz (33rd in 26:52) and Matt Arruda (34th in 26:56) both from Mira Costa were solid back-ups.

The women placed 10th overall with freshman Deana Takaoka (South Torrance) running a good race with her 20:07 for 5,000m (19:20 for 3-mile) placing 60th with sophomore Brianna Harmon (99th in 21:25) and freshman Savannah Sehenuk (100th in 21:27) following in a deep field.

The Warriors will return to action on Friday afternoon as they travel to the SoCal Preview. The women's 5k begins at 10 a.m. while the men's 4-mile race starts at 11 a.m. at Central Park in Santa Clarita, Calif.
