Warriors Finish Third in Conference for First Time Ever with Thrilling OT Win

LONG BEACH, Calif. --- For the first time ever, El Camino College claimed third place at the South Coast Conference championships after a thrilling 10-9 victory over Cerritos in triple overtime on Saturday afternoon at the Monte Nitzowski Aquatics Center at Long Beach City College.

Jackie Calhoun's goal with 1:35 left in sudden-death triple overtime lifted the Warriors to their best ever finish in the SCC Championships. It was her second goal of the match and first since the 59-second mark of the second quarter.

The Warriors jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and led 5-2 at halftime. But the Falcons scored four unanswered goals from the 3:08 mark of the third quarter to the 4:12 mark of the fourth to tie the match at 6-6. The teams traded goals and Jewels Longoria's goal with 26 seconds left for Cerritos knotted things up at 8-8 to send the match into overtime.

The Warriors scored in the first overtime but the Falcons answered in the second, tying the match at 9-9 with 1:13 left in the second OT. Neither team could find the back of the cage for the remainder of the second extra period, sending the match into a third overtime with sudden death rules where Calhoun clinched the match for the Warriors.

With the win, the Warriors have now finished fourth or better in the South Coast Conference for the third straight season under fourth-year head coach Shelby Haroldson after not finishing higher than fifth since 2011.
