Women’s Volleyball Drops Two on Friday

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College dropped a pair of matches on Friday at the ECC Gym Complex in its annual three-way with Canyons and Grossmont.

The Warriors (0-4) have now lost four straight to start the season and have attacked at a percentage under .100 in each one.

CANYONS 3, ECC 0

The Warriors nearly had as many attack errors (21) as kills (24) in the opening match of the day, falling in three to the Cougars (2-1). Leafa Juarez led the offense with nine kills and Makaela Wilson added seven but it was not enough to avoid a sweep.

The Warriors had six service errors and 11 receiving errors in addition to the miscues in their attacks and could not recover.

GROSSMONT 3, ECC 1

The Warriors took their first lead in a match this season after edging the Griffins (1-2) in the opening set. But the Griffins took the next three to close out the win and leave ECC with a split after falling to Canyons in four sets.

Juarez recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 kills and 18 digs and Wilson added eight kills to go along with Jayden Zabala's 32 assists but it was not enough.

The Warriors held a 20-18 lead but were outscored 7-1 to put the finishing touches on the loss.

Brooke Miller led the Griffins with 14 kills and Joanna Verdugo-Del Real added 11 in the win with Chelsee Trendler dishing out 44 assists.

The Warriors return to action on Wednesday with a road contest against MiraCosta with first serve set for 6 p.m.
