Leilua Earns AVCA First-Team All-American Honor

2018 AVCA Two-Year College All-American Teams

Phina Leilua capped off an excellent sophomore campaign with one of the highest honors in the country as she was named to the American Volleyball Coaches' Association All-American First Team on December 5.

Leilua was one of four players from the state of California to earn a spot on the First Team on the list of 15 athletes.

The Hawthorne, Calif. native was the anchor of the Warriors offense during the 2018 season and helped lead the team to the CCCAA State Championships for the second time in the past three seasons. She ranked ninth in the state with a 4.24 kills per set average after leading the Warriors with 335 kills in 79 sets played.

Leilua recorded 11 double-doubles in 25 matches overall to lead the team. She also posted a career-best 30 kills to go along with 17 digs in the Warriors postseason opener against Fullerton, a five-set victory.

This season, Leilua was named to the CCCAA All-State Team and earned the South Coast Conference, South Division Most Valuable Player Award.

In her two years at ECC, Leilua played in 44 matches and 147 sets. She finished her career with 462 kills and a 3.14 kills per set average and attacked at a .263 clip. Leilua tallied 278 digs for a 1.89 per set average and she added 20 assists, 29 service aces with all of them coming in her sophomore year, and 68 blocks.
