Warriors Sweep Long Beach at Home

TORRANCE, Calif. - In front of a boisterous crowd in the ECC South Gym on Wednesday night, the No.5 El Camino College Warriors defeated the No.6 Long Beach City College in straight sets (25-18, 25-21, 25-14).

The Warriors dominated the Vikings in each set with a well spread out attack.   Phina Leilua (8 kills), Sophia Loiola (7 kills), and Meris Ewell (7 kills) led the Warriors offense.  Caitlin Donatucci (23) and Keri Isara (14) combined for 37 of the team's 38 assists.

The Warriors opened the first set in dominating fashion, jumping to an early 16-6 lead.  The Vikings went on a 5-0 run before the Warriors could close out the set at 25-18.

The second set was a much closer set than the first.  Every time the Warriors tried to go on a run and pull away, the Vikings came back and they eventually knotted things up at 18-18. El Camino was able to push the lead to 22-19 before Leilua was able to close out the set at 25-21.

El Camino started the third set strong opening up with an 8-3 lead.  They never gave the Vikings a chance to come back in the third set and closed it out, 25-14.  

The Warriors have won four straight matches and will look to make it five in a row when they head to Chaffey college on Friday, October 19th at 6:00 PM.
