Excellent Team Effort Leads Warriors Past Bakersfield in First Round Sweep

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Aiko Waters led the way offensively and No. 11 El Camino College got contributions from a number of players en route to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-21) upset sweep at No. 6 Bakersfield on Tuesday night in the opening round of the California Community College Athletics Association Women's Volleyball State Championships playoffs.

Waters notched yet another double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs along with two blocks and three aces to lead the Warriors (20-4) past the Renegades (19-6). Jerephina Leilua added five kills and seven digs while Jaylin Motley posted six kills and four digs.

"It was a great team win," Warriors head coach Liz Hazell said. "Everyone contributed and played really steady. Everyone was really disciplined and did their job."

Glorious Owens patrolled the frontline effectively as she led the Warriors with six blocked shots and Kiana Takahashi posted nine digs. Sarah Dyer (15) and Keily Morimoto (13) combined for 28 assists to lead the Warriors to victory.

The Warriors will now travel to No. 3 seed College of the Canyons on Saturday night at 6 p.m. with a trip to the CCCAA State Championships on the line. The Cougars defeated Golden West College in four sets on Tuesday to advance to the second round.
