Leilua and Waters Power Warriors to Dominant Victory at Pasadena

PASADENA, Calif. – El Camino College never trailed on Friday night as the Warriors swept Pasadena 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-13) in a South Coast Conference crossover match at the Hutto-Patterson Gym.

The Warriors (12-4) got solid nights out of Aiko Waters (13) and Jerephina Leilua (10) each tallied double-digit kills while Leilua posted a .474 (10-1-19) attacking percentage. Waters had a double-double with 11 digs and Jaylin Motley added eight kills and 10 digs.

Sarah Dyer (23) and Keily Morimoto (11) combined for 34 of the team's 41 assists and helped set the Warriors to a .372 (41-9-86) attacking percentage. Renee Brydon added six kills and four blocks.

For the Lancers, Vanessa Lopez and Rachel Johnson tied for the team lead with six kills apiece on a night where they were held to a meager .078 attacking percentage.

The opening set proved to be the closest between the teams despite the Warriors jumping out to a 4-0 lead. The Lancers fought back and cut the deficit to one on a couple of occasions but could never tie the score.

With the Warriors holding a narrow 21-19 advantage, Waters recorded consecutive kills to force a Pasadena timeout. Two Lancers points later, the Warriors put the set away on a service error and a kill from Leilua to take a 1-0 lead.

The Warriors jumped out to big leads early in the second and third set and never allowed the Lancers to catch up to secure the match. They will face L.A. Pierce in a non-conference matchup to wrap up their five-game road swing on Wednesday. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
