Warriors Come up Aces for Fifth Straight Win

TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College dominated with its service game on Friday night leading to a 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-8) South Coast Conference victory over L.A. Trade Tech at the ECC South Gym.

The Warriors (11-2, 2-0) recorded their fifth straight victory and remained perfect in conference as the team served up 13 aces on the night. Sarah Dyer led the team with five aces while also dishing out 18 assists and, along with Keily Morimoto (15 assists), helped serve the Warriors to a .354 (38-10-79) attacking percentage on the night against the Beavers (0-8, 0-1).

Aiko Waters served up three aces and also led the team with 10 digs on the night to go along with eight kills. Jaylin Motley led the offense with 11 kills and Renee Brydon added nine kills and two blocks on the night.

The Warriors came out firing, leading the first set wire-to-wire and scored the first five points of the frame. They recorded eight of their service aces in the first and got five kills from Motley along with three from Waters to run away with the opening frame.

In the second, ECC trailed for the first and only time in the match after Anna Mateo's kill gave the Beavers the first point of the set. The Warriors promptly responded with a 9-2 scoring run to take command and they never looked back. The second was the Warriors worst offensive set as they committed six attacking errors and hit a match-low .185 in the frame.

The team would make up for it in the third. After alternating points to start the set, the Warriors went on a blistering 13-0 run to put the game out of reach. The team hit a match-best .538 in the third with five kills from Brydon, four from Motley and three from Waters while committing just one attacking error in the frame.

The Warriors will now pack their bags as their next five matches will be away from the ECC South Gym, beginning Wednesday night in a critical SCC-South Division match-up with Long Beach. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
