Brydon, Motley Lead Warriors to Fourth Straight Victory in Conference Opener

NORWALK, Calif. – Renee Brydon and Jaylin Motley each recorded double-digit kills on Wednesday night as El Camino College swept past Cerritos 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-12) in the South Coast Conference opener at The Aviary.

Brydon was nearly flawless for the Warriors (10-2, 1-0) as she led the team with a .733 attacking percentage after slamming down 12 kills on 15 swings with just one error. She also added two assists, two digs and a pair of solo blocks. Motley was just as good offensively, leading the team with 15 kills on 25 swings without an error for a .600 percentage against the Falcons (0-13, 0-1).

Aiko Waters added nine kills and a team-high 15 digs while Sarah Dyer (19) and Keily Morimoto (14) combined for 33 assists and set the Warriors to a .313 attacking percentage on the night.

The match did not start off so well for the Warriors as they blew a pair of early five-point leads and found themselves trailing 14-11 after allowing the Falcons to string together an 8-0 scoring run. But ECC responded with five straight points to regain the lead and the two teams went back-and-forth.

After the Falcons took an 18-17 lead, the Warriors benefited from five Falcons attacking errors and scored the next eight points to claim the opening set.

In the second set, the Falcons opened the scoring with a kill from Daisy Segura. It would be the last lead of the match for the Falcons as ECC ran away with the second and third sets to secure the victory.

The Warriors will return home on Friday night for another SCC match as they welcome L.A. Trade Tech to the ECC South Gym. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
