Warriors Knockout Bakersfield 3-1 and Advance to Second Round of SoCal Regionals

TORRANCE, Calif. - The No. 6th ranked Warriors fought hard against No. 11th Bakersfield College on Tuesday night but the Warriors proved to be the better team, advancing them to the second round of Regionals. El Camino (22-3) ended the night with a 3-1 victory over the Renegades (20-9), taking the first two sets 25-15, 26-24, and the fourth set 25-22.

The Renegades gained the lead in the first set but the Warriors kept close, trailing by a point. Freshman outside hitter Jaylin Motley began the rigorous attack, helping push the Warriors ahead and earning a total of four kills. Freshman outside hitter Aiko Waters recorded five kills in the first, leading the team in its 10 point sweep over the Renegades to end the set 25-15. The Renegades took the third set 25-20.

The fourth set saw constant lead changes as both teams struggled to gain a large lead. As the Warriors trailed by two, opposite/outside hitter Taylor Brydon had a kill that helped the Warriors comeback from their deficit. The Warriors went on and scored five points straight to take the set and the win.

With another excellent game, Brydon led the Warriors with 17 kills, seven digs and two aces. Sophomore middle blocker Micah Hammond was right behind with 16 kills and led the defensive battle with a total of three blocks. Waters also had a stellar game, earning a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs.

Following this victory, the Warriors will host No. 14 Irvine Valley College (15-6) in the second round of So Cal Regionals. The match will take place at El Camino on Saturday, Nov. 26th at 6pm.
