Women's Volleyball Splits in Home Opener

Torrance, Calif. - The Warriors (8-3) split in their home opener, outlasting San Diego Mesa in five before falling to Grossmont in four on Friday.

Set scores against the Olympians were 25-14, 23-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-13 and 12-25, 25-21, 27-29, 17-25 against the Griffins.

Against San Diego Mesa, a balanced attack from sophomore Taylor Brydon and freshmen Aiko Waters, Micah Hammond, and Jaylin Motley led the way. Waters paced all Warrior hitters with 14 kills, while Hammond and Motley added 13, and Brydon tallied 12.

Sophomore Michelle Shimamoto led the way defensively with 18 digs, while at the net sophomore Victoria Curtice recorded eight blocks.

In the second match, Brydon counted 11 kills, while Waters and sophomore Brooklyn Rubio earned 12 digs each. Sophomore Nina Wyer mainly directed the offense in both matches, counting 66 assists on the day.

The women's volleyball team heads back on the road, competing at Cerritos on Friday, Sept. 23 in the conference opener. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
