Track and Field Wraps Up Season at State Championships with Solid Marks

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The ECC track and field team ended their season at the California Community College Athletic Association State Championships as they battled through the heat and tough competition. The two-day event concluded Saturday at American River College, with the women's team placing 8th and the men's team in 12th.

Friday wrapped up with the javelin competition which included Damien Bernard and Kevin and Travis Heinemann. Bernard earned a new personal best finishing in 2nd place with a mark of 175-11. Kevin and Travis finished back-to-back in 6th (160-4) and 7th (160-0) place.

Shukura Tyler also finished State with a new best, earning a solid 3rd place finish in the long jump at 18-5 ¾. She would then go on to place 4th in the 100m hurdles in 14.45, after running a solid 400m relay leg. Nicole Tyler followed, earning 3rd as well in the javelin at 134-5.

The Warriors continued to earn new records on Saturday as the women's 400m relay earned a season best of 47.10 for a 4th place finish. The relay team consisted of Tyler, Anaiah Brown, Ivery Cody and Sierra Peterson. The men (Jerrett Anderson, Justin Alexander, Bernard, Landon Sharp) followed in 7th at 41.54.

Alexander had a close race in the 400m hurdles as he and the junior college national leader, Quincy Hall from Sequoias, went stride for stride. Alexander finished closely behind Hall to rank in at 2nd place at 51.60.

Peterson not only contributed to both relays but had solid performances in two of her races. She ended in 3rd in the 100m at 12.01 and came in 7th in the 200m at 24.76. Brown came through in the 100m also earning a spot on the podium with her 7th place finish in 12.28.

Yazmine Al-Uqdah tied for 6th in the high jump at 5-1. Israel Cardona placed 10th in the 1500m at 4:18.04.
