Alexander Among Warriors to Advance to State Championships After Earning Top Mark in Southern California

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Several Warriors had top performances in the Southern California Championships. The women's track and field team had a 5th (61 points) place finish while Cerritos College won the women's portion. The men's team finished 9th out of the 25 teams who competed, with Mt. San Antonio College taking 1st.

Qualifying for next weekend's California Community College Athletic Association State Championships includes Justin Alexander. Alexander earned the titled of Southern California Champion in the 400 meter hurdles in 52.96. He was also the second leg on the 1600m relay team.

Sierra Peterson also advances to State, finishing 2nd in the 100m in 11.90, placing her as 4th All-Time ECC Performer. She earned 3rd in the 200m (24.65) and anchored the women's 400m relay.

Victoria Portor finished the 800m in 2nd (2:14.83) to place her as 10th All-Time ECC Performer. Shukura Tyler also finished her event in 2nd, ending the 100m hurdles in 14.61 while finishing 5th in the 200m (25.12). Nicole Clark wrapped up the javelin competition with a mark of 140'0" to put her in 2nd.

The women's 400m relay included Tyler, Anaiah Brown, Ivery Cody, Peterson and came in right behind the Mounties for 3rd place (47.20). The men's team also finished 3rd (41.43) and included Jerrett Anderson, Alexander, Damien Bernard, and Landon Sharp.

In the men's portion of the javelin, Travis Heinemann finished 3rd with a mark of 162' while Damien Bernard also advances to State with his high qualifying standard.

The 1600m relay women's team (Peterson, Xiomara Perkins, Cody, Portor) placed 4th in 3:52.91.

Brown ended the 100m in 5th, coming in at 12.11 and Yazmine Al-Uqdah earned 6th in the high jump at 5'3".

The Warriors will travel to Sacramento, Calif. next weekend to compete in the CCCAA State Championships.
