Track and Field Heads to Southern California Regional Finals After Earning Top Marks in Preliminaries

NORWALK, Calif. - After competing in the Southern California Regional Preliminaries at Cerritos College on Friday and Saturday, the Warriors have placed 15 women and eight men in next Saturday's SoCal Finals.

Taking the No. 1 seed for the Warriors were Justin Alexander in the 400 meter hurdles (53.35), Israel Cardona in the 1500m (3:59.71) and Damien Bernard in the javelin at 172-1 ½, which ranks him 5th ECC All-Time new rule javelin performer. Winning 1st place for the women's team was Yazmine Al-Uqdah who ended the long jump with a mark of 17-10 and the high jump at 5-2 ¾.

Placing 2nd was Nicole Clark who finished the javelin at 137-3 and continues to hold the state lead. Shukura Tyler ended the women's 100m hurdle in 14.44 to also earn 2nd place while the women's 1600m relay finished 2nd in 3:55.19.

Sierra Peterson had 3rd place finishes in three of her events. She finished the 100m in 11.97 which puts her at 6th ECC All-Time performer. Peterson earned a mark of 17-6 in the long jump and 24.62 in the 200m.

Travis Heinemann earned 3rd in the men's javelin while the women's 400m relay also finished 3rd in 48.23.

The Regional Finals will begin May 13th at noon at Cerritos College with the field events and will wrap up around 7 p.m. after the relays.
