Track and Field Shines in South Coast Conference Finals

TORRANCE, Calif. - The South Coast Conference Championships took place at El Camino on Friday morning, as athletes from Cerritos, Mt. San Antonio, Long Beach, East Los Angeles and Pasadena participated in the events. Mt. SAC won the men's portion, while Cerritos won the women's. Both the men's and women's teams for the Warriors finished 3rd.

Shukura Tyler currently ranks 2nd in state in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing in 1st on Friday at 14.12. She also earned 2nd place in the long jump with 17-11 ½.

Yazmine Al-Uqdah won the high jump for the Warriors with a mark of 5-5, which moves her to 4th All-Time performer for El Camino.

Justin Alexander ended the 400m intermediate hurdles on top with a time of 52.67 and currently sits 2nd in the state.

Winning the 3,000 m steeplechase for the Warriors was Solomon Kanehailua, finishing the event with a time of 10:04.20.

Israel Cardona finished the 1500m run in 4:05.21 to come in 1st.  

Several Warriors earned second place finishes, including Sierra Peterson who ended the 100m dash in 11.97 and went on to place 3rd in the 200m dash. Victoria Portor finished 2nd in the 800m with a time of 2:17.73. Ashley Wells threw 126-6 in the discus throw to earn 2nd for herself as well.

The men's 1600m relay team came in 2nd with a time of 3:19.66. The team consisted of Alex Castro, Alexander, Justin Moore and Josh Vargas.

The Southern California Regional Preliminaries will be held at Cerritos on Saturday, May 6th, and will begin at 9 a.m. and are set to conclude at 6 p.m.
