Track and Field Competes in Cerritos Opener and Combined Events

CERRITOS, Calif. - The Warriors travelled to Cerritos College for the Cerritos Opener and Combined Events. The competitive meet included Mt. San Antonio College, Cerritos, San Bernardino Valley, Pasadena, Long Beach as well as post-collegiate club teams.

Sophomore Justin Alexander took the 400m and with his time places second in Southern California with 49.05. He also took the 400m intermediate hurdles with 54.20 to put him second in State. Sophomore Alex Castro placed second in the 400m (50.94) and 3rd in the 400 IH (57.11).

Sophomore Jerrett Anderson came in sixth in the 400m (51.92). Israel Cardona landed in seventh in the 1,500m run but placed third in the 3,000m run (8:57.25).

Freshman Damien Bernard took second place in the javelin (50.92m) and is currently ranked third in SoCal, he also tied for fourth in the long jump (6.46m). Kevin and Travis Heinemann came in fourth and fifth.

Sophomore Nicole Clark won the javelin once more in a state-leading 143-11 mark but placed seventh in the shot put. Sophomore Shukura Tyler ranks third in SoCal, winning the 100 hurdles (14.97) while teammate freshman Ivery Cody came in third. Sophomore Yazmine Al-Uqdah took the high jump at 1.57m and the long jump in third (4.83m). Fourth in SoCal, sophomore Sierra Peterson won the community college 400m with 59.70. Sophomore Victoria Portor placed 2nd in the 800m in 2:22.08 and ranks third in SoCal.

The women's 1600m relay consisted of Sierra Peterson, Tyler, Portor, and Cody who closed out the evening with a win (4:04.93), placing fourth in State. Justin Moore, Castro, Anderson, and Alexander came in second in the men's relay in 3:25.29.

The Warriors next travel to the Cal State Los Angeles Eagle Invitational next Saturday, March 4th.
