Giese Remains Undefeated but Warriors Edged by Irvine Valley
TORRANCE, Calif. – Freshman Lindsay Giese continued her hot start to the season but it was not enough as El Camino College suffered a 5-4 non-conference loss to visiting Irvine Valley Tuesday afternoon at the ECC Tennis Courts.
The Warriors (2-2) held a 2-1 advantage over the Lasers (2-0) after the doubles portion after Giese and Kekoa Vaefa won their match 8-5 with Jay Gomez and Amanda Hidalgo taking the No. 3 doubles match, 8-4.
Giese stayed undefeated on the season, pushing her singles and doubles record to 4-0 with wins on Tuesday. She beat Soleil Zsibrita in the No. 1 singles match in straight sets, needing a 7-3 in the first-set tiebreaker before cruising to a 6-2 win in set two.
Jay Gomez notched the other victory in the singles slate, winning the No. 6 match against College Kelly in straight sets (6-0, 6-1).
The Warriors will return to action on Thursday with a road match at Orange Coast. First serve is set for 2 p.m. It will be the first of four straight matches away from ECC. The Warriors' next home match will take place on March 3 against Victor Valley in the conference opener.
