Tanagawa, Ito and Giese Score Wins but Warriors Fall to Riverside

TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College got wins from its top three singles players and its top doubles team but came up just short against visiting Riverside, 5-4, Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match at the ECC Tennis Courts.

The Warriors (6-4) dropped two of three doubles matches to start things off, putting ECC in a 2-1 hole. The duo of Madi Giese and Lina Ito were able to salvage one point in the No. 1 doubles matchup with a dominating 8-2 victory.

In the singles portion, the Warriors top three of Riko Tanagawa, Ito and Giese took care of business, winning the No. 1, 2, and 3 singles matches in straight sets, respectively.

But the Warriors could not secure a point on the back end as the Tigers (12-2) won the No. 4, 5, and 6 singles matches to secure the victory.

It was the first time the Tigers have lost the top three singles matches this season and still managed to record a victory in a match overall.

The Warriors will return to conference action Thursday afternoon as they hit the road to take on Rio Hondo. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
