Ito and Giese Advance at Conference Championships

Lina Ito and Maddie Giese performed well at the South Coast Conference Championships hosted by Cerritos College on Thrusday afternoon.

On the singles side, Ito and Giese each advanced to the next day of competition with one win apiece as both players received first-round byes. Giese won her match over Iris Wong of Mount San Antonio in straight sets, needing a tiebreaker in set two to advance to Friday's action.

Ito defeated Valerie Carmona of Mt. SAC in her second round matchup to advance to Friday's quarterfinals. Both players are on the same side of the bracket and could potentially face off in the semifinals should each player win their quarterfinal contest.

Amanda Vitanatchi, Jordan Villarreal and Stephanie Kingham also competed in the singles competition with Kingham scoring a first-round victory over Heidi Zapata of Mt. SAC in straight sets before falling to Itzi Torres of Cerritos in the second round.

In doubles action, the combo of Giese and Ito received a first-round bye before defeating Wong and Jade Go of Mt. SAC in the second round.

The duo of Vitanatchi and Kingham won their first round contest against Carmona and Zapata of Mt. SAC before falling in the second round.

The next rounds of the conference championships will resume Friday at Cerritos College.
