Warriors Finish Up Opening Day at State Championships

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. – Cindy Ngo's second-place finish highlighted El Camino College's opening day at the California Community College Swimming and Diving State Championships Thursday at East Los Angeles College.

Ngo finished second in the 50 freestyle, touching the wall in 24.44, just behind state champion Samm Crocker of Golden West College (23.92). Ngo also missed the ECC record by just .09.

In the 1-meter diving event, ECC's Jean Liu finished 12th overall after posting a 149.35. Gina Jacobson of Santa Barbara City College took home the state title with a 246.85.

The Warriors relay teams also raced on day one, with the 200 freestyle relay squad finishing in 13th place while the 400 medley relay team finished 14th. After the opening day, the Warriors women's team sits in 13th place with 36 points.

On the men's side, the Warriors took part in just two events as Ryo Kagawa finished in 15th place in the 200 individual medley, posting a time of 2:00.89.

The CCCAA State Champions run through Saturday.
