Records Fall as Warriors Excel in Day Two at South Coast Conference Championships

WALNUT, Calif. – El Camino College continued to post high marks Friday afternoon as the Warriors set new school records on day two of the South Coast Conference Championships at the Marie T. Mills Aquatic Facility in Walnut, Calif.

On the men's side, Ian Pallares took home the conference title in the 100 butterfly, posting a time of 53.05 to outpace Pasadena's Jayson Wilia, who touched the wall in 53.65. Joaquin Vargas posted a time of 59.93 to finish in the top 15.

Ryo Kagawa took home the SCC title in the 100 breststroke, setting a new ECC record by touching the wall in 56.90. He was nearly two seconds better than Mt. SAC's Bryan Calderon who touched in 58.89. Jordan Diaz just missed a top-10 finish in the event for the Warriors, finishing in 1:04.90.

Overall, the men currently sit in fourth place in the team standings with 288 points. Mt. SAC leads the way with 527 points heading into the final day of competition on Saturday.

On the women's side, the medley teams shined for ECC as the 200 medley relay squad and the 800 freestyle relay team each took down the conference title in their respective events. In the 200 medley relay, the Warriors posted the top time at 1:53.54, more than two seconds better than Mt. SAC's squad.

Not to be outdone, the 800 freestyle relay team posted a new ECC record en route to victory. The Warriors finished in 8:06.81, nearly eight seconds better than Mt. SAC at 8:14.51. The Warriors crushed the previous ECC record by 11 seconds.

Overall, the women's squad currently sits in second place with 422 points, 47.5 points back of Mt. SAC.

Through two days of action, the Warriors have captured a combined six conference titles in the following events:

Women – 50 freestyle (Cindy Ngo); 200 freestyle relay; 200 medley relay; 800 freestyle relay

Men – 100 butterfly (Pallares); 100 breaststroke (Kagawa)
