Swimming & Diving Falls to Mt. SAC but Wins Against Cerritos College in Double Dual Meet

WALNUT, Calif. - The men's and women's swimming & diving teams traveled to Mt. San Antonio College for a double dual meet against the Mounties and the Cerritos College Falcons on Friday. The women's team fell to to the Mounties, 166-111 while winning against the Falcons, 167-91. The men's team also fell to the Mounties, 192-86 and beat the Falcons, 159-96. Several Warriors had first place finishes in their events.

Bethany Andrade earned 1st in the 100 yard breaststroke, coming in at 1:15.55. She also went on to take 2nd place in the 200 yard breastroke (2:49.96), while placing 7th in the 200 yard individual medley at 2:45.87.

Clare Siverts earned 1st place in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:48.69) and finished only four seconds behind Andrade in the 100 breaststroke for 2nd place. She took a 5th place finish in the 200 yard individual medley (2:42.48).

Cindy Ngo took the 50 yard freestyle to end in 1st place (25.20) while finishing 2nd in the 200 yard backstroke (2:22.64). Amber Sauer dominated the 1,000 yard freestyle to take 1st place at 12:10.73. She also rocked the 500 yard freestyle, coming in right behind her opponent at 5:35.60 for 2nd place.

Tiana Pugliese also earned 1st and 2nd place finishes. She came in at 57.89 to take the top spot in the 100 yard freestyle while finishing at 1:07.40 in the 100 yard backstroke to end it in 2nd.

Jean Liu competed in the 1 meter diving and finished 1st (143.8) for the Warriors. Samantha Beattie placed 3rd in all three of her events; the 200 yard fly (2:37.27), 100 yard fly (1:08.79), and 200 yard individual medley (2:35.57).

Warrior Richelle Miller ended the 200 yard freestyle in 5th at 2:35.00 and also ended 5th in the 50 yard freestyle (31.14.5). She finished 7th in the 100 yard freestyle (1:09.117).

Ian Pallares took both of his events, earning 1st place in the 200 (2:04.26) and the 100 yard fly (54.11). Ryo Kagawa earned 1st place in all three of his events. He finished the 100 yard breaststroke in 59.69, while finishing the 200 yard breastroke at 2:15.97 and the 200 yard individual medley in 2:04.42. Jason Gottschalk competed in the 1,000 yard freestyle, ending it in 10:39.47 to earn 2nd place. He also competed in the 200 yard backstroke which he finished in 2:18.49 for a 3rd place spot, while also placing 3rd in the 500 yard freestyle (5:11.01).

Jordan Diaz represented the Warriors in the 100 yard breaststroke which he finished at 1:08.12 in 5th. He also came in 5th in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:34.10 ) while taking 7th in the 200 yard individual medley at 2:32.35.

Jonas Fahrney 50 yard freestyle in 23.71 (4th place) and 5th in 100 yard freestyle 52.68. Sean Hamada competed in the 200 yard freestyle, which he ended in 7th (2:03.84). He took 5th place in both the 200 yard fly (2:28.57) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:29.14).

"I thought we swam very well," commeneted Coach Corey Stanbury. "Especially considering how hard we are still training. We are still covering about 10,000 yards per day. We beat Cerritos easily for both men and women in spite of 3 athletes being out for sickness or injury. We also were closer to Mt SAC than I had anticipated so I am beginning to think that the Conference Championship meet will be very interesting."

"We are very much looking forward to our only home competition next week with a big match up against Long Beach," he finished. The Warriors host Long Beach City College and LA Trade Tech on Friday, March 24th at 12:30pm.
