TORRANCE, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors women's soccer team tied with Rio Hondo but lost the penalty shootout on Friday afternoon in the opening round of the South Coast Conference Tournament.

The No. 4 seeded Warriors (11-4-3) lost in penalty kicks against the No. 5 seeded Rio Hondo Roadrunners.

After a scoreless first half the Warriors scored near the start of the second half against Rio Hondo.

Ashley Ruiz crossed a ball into the box and the ball bounced off Claire Mahon and Allison Sibley was there to finish it for her 22nd goal of the season.

The Warriors held the lead comfortably for most of the second half then with less than 4 minutes to go in regulation, the Roadrunners earned a penalty kick after reserve goalkeeper Nevaeh Johnson fouled a Rio Hondo player inside the box.

McKenna Morey who started the game in goal but was injured in the first half came back on for the Warriors but was unable to stop the penalty from Janessa Gallardo.

After regulation, the game immediately went to penalty kicks.  The first two kickers for either side had their penalties saved.  However, the Roadrunners made their next two and the Warriors only converted one of their first three kicks to hand Rio Hondo a 2-1 advantage.  Rio Hondo made their next kick to make it 3-1 and make it sudden death for the Warrior. The next Warriors penalty kick taker saw her shot saved to hand the penalty shootout over to Rio Hondo.

The Warriors will play the loser of the Pasadena City College vs Cerritos College game next Tuesday in 5th place game.
