Mendoza’s Two Goals Lead Warriors to Shutout Win Over Lancers

TORRANCE, Calif. – In its final game of the season, the El Camino College women's soccer squad (6-13-1) got their second consecutive home victory with a dominant 4-0 shutout win over Pasadena City (1-13-4) at ECC Soccer Field on Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Nalleli Mendoza netted two goals in the win to finish the year with nine as she put El Camino on the board first with a goal in the 19th minute off an assist from freshman Elizabeth Velasquez. The forward would go on to score her second goal of the match in the 53rd minute, knocking in a penalty shot to extend the lead to 4-0.

Forward Robin Riggs and midfielder Isabel Alba also got in on the scoring action as Riggs scored her ninth goal of the season in the 34th minute on a through ball from midfielder Alexandria Katsouridis while Alba netted hers in the 48th minute on an assist from Riggs.

In a dual effort, goalies Joelle Niimi and Christina Johnson pitched the Warriors third shutout in their final four games. Niimi recorded two saves in the first half, while Johnson took over in the second to finish the day with three saves.

On the year, the Warriors finished with a 6-13-1 record, while going 3-4-1 in conference play.
