Warriors Get Their First Win Against San Diego Miramar

TORRANCE, Calif. - El Camino College won their first game of the young season after a 2-1 victory over San Diego Miramar College on Wednesday afternoon.

El Camino College (1-3) went ahead 2-0 early in the second half and never looked back as they held onto a 2-1 victory over San Diego Miramar (0-3).

Nalleli Mendoza and Robin Riggs scored the goals for the Warriors.  Tzarina Saenz scored a late consolation goal for the Jets.

Mendoza opened the scoring after taking advantage of a defensive miscue in the 15th minute.  A Miramar defender misplayed a ball back to their goalkeeper that Mendoza was able to intercept and put it past the goalkeeper to score her 4th goal of the season.

The Warriors almost made it 2-0 in the 37th minute but some great Miramar defending prevented a goal.   Robin Riggs had a header off a corner cleared off the line by a Jets defender.

El Camino College started the second half with three great efforts on goal.  Robin Riggs dribbled up the left side and was able to shoot it over the keeper into the upper right 90 for her first goal of the season.  Riggs also had two more opportunities saved right after her goal.

San Diego Miramar pegged one goal back towards the end of the second half.  Tzarina Saenz chipped a ball over Rosy Soriano from outside the 18-yard box to give the Jets some late life.

However, the El Camino defense held strong to prevent another good look on goal for the Jets to close the game out.

Rosy Soriano started her first game in goal for the Warriors and finished the game with three saves.

The Warriors return to action on Friday, September 14th at LA Valley.   Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
