Late Goal Sours Solid Effort by El Camino

TORRANCE, Calif. - Despite dominating most of the game, El Camino College surrendered two second half goals to Moorpark to suffer a 3-2 loss at home on Monday morning.

After a tough loss last week to open the season against a strong Santa Monica, El Camino College (0-2-0) came out strong early in the game.   They had five shots in the first ten minutes of the game and kept the ball mainly in Moorpark's half. However, Moorpark (1-0-0) was the first team to score after a ball played by Emalee Linares to the right side of the box that Dejah Wallot blasted into the lower left corner of the goal to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.

The Warriors would respond nearly ten minutes later when Robin Riggs played Nalleili Mendoza on the right side of the 18-yard box.   Mendoza's shot was handled by a Moorpark defender which led to a penalty kick for the Warriors. Mendoza scored her second goal of the year via the penalty spot to equalize the game for the Warriors.

The Warriors had a twelve to two shot advantage in the first half in the game.

The Warriors opened up the second half strong by forcing four shots on goal before finally breaking through in the 64th minute.  Nalleili Mendoza scored her second goal of the day after an assist by Ashley Hanna. Mendoza found herself 1-v-1 with the keeper and slotted it to the left side of the net to give the Warriors their first lead of the season.

Moorpark equalized in the 71st minute after Emalee Linares scored on a loose ball in the box.  She shot the ball over Joelle Niimi into the upper 90 right side of the post.

The Warriors had a few more good scoring opportunities by Robin Riggs, Brittany Baker, and Mendoza before Moorpark found the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute against the run of play. Rebecca Ramirez found herself wide open on a corner kick and blasted the ball into the net to give the Raiders a 3-2 lead.

The Warriors had two more opportunities to equalize before the game ended.  Robin Riggs had a shot saved on the left side by a Moorpark defender and Alexandria Katsouridis had a chance within the 6-yard box that was saved by the Moorpark goalkeeper.

The Warriors dominated on offense for the day, outshooting Moorpark 27 to 9 (14 SOG, to 6 SOG).  The Moorpark goalkeeper had 13 saves for the day and Joelle Niimi had three saves for the Warriors.  The Warriors had 6 corner kicks to the Raiders 1.

The Warriors have another game this week as they head to Fullerton on Friday, September 7th. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
