Medina’s Game-winner Seals Victory for Warriors over East Los Angeles

TORRANCE, Calif. - El Camino College's perfect start to October continued on Friday afternoon with a 2-1 win over East Los Angeles College in a SCC crossover game.

El Camino College (8-6-1, 2-2)  has pushed their winning streak to six games in a row and have outscored opponents 18-3 in those six games.

Maddy Simones scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the third minute of play.  Jodie Brennan played Simones a brilliant through ball that saw Simones' initial shot saved by the keeper, but on the rebound Simones dribbled around the goalkeeper and easily slotted the ball into the open net to put the Warriors up 1-0.

In the second half, things started a bit slow for the Warriors.  East Los Angeles College (4-8-2, 0-3-1)  took advantage of the Warriors' mistakes and equalized in the 51st minute.  Stephanie Galvan scored from the top of the box into the left corner of Isabel Rojas net after taking a pass from Ashey Lopez and Breanna Sandoval.

The equalizing goal from the Huskies woke up the ECC offense.  The Warriors would finally be rewarded in the 65th minute when Carolyn Medina scored the game-winning goal for ECC.  Monica Bernardino passed the ball to Robin Riggs down the left sideline and Riggs sent a cross into the box.  Maddy Simones did a stepover the ball and it found a wide open Medina who slotted the ball into the net to give the Warriors the lead for good.

After the go-ahead goal for the Warriors, they would outshoot the Huskies 8-2.

Isabel Rojas picked up 6th win in a row in the net for the Warriors.  She was credited with two saves on three shots on goal.

The Warriors will go on the road for their next game on Tuesday, October 24th for a SCC crossover game vs Rio Hondo College.
