Warriors Notch First Victory of Season Over Irvine Valley

TORRANCE, CALIF. – El Camino College picked up their first victory of the young season with a 2-0 win over Irvine Valley College on Wednesday afternoon at Murdock Stadium.

ECC struck early in the first half of the game when Kathryn Wilson scored her first goal of the season in the 8th minute.  Wilson intercepted a ball at midfield from the Laser defense and dribbled into the box where she played a give & go pass with Monica Bernardino, who slotted it back to Wilson who shot it past the IVC goalkeeper.

The Lasers outshot the Warriors 11 to 7 in the first half, but none of their shots threatened Isabel Rojas's goal.  She had three saves as the netminder for the Warrior defense.

ECC doubled their advantage 2-0 early in the second half when Taylor Herm scored her first goal of the season.   Herm grabbed a loose ball at the top of the Laser box and dribbled past two defenders and calmly slotted the ball underneath the goalkeeper into the net.

The Warriors had another great chance in the 81st minute when Princess Butler made a great run from the ECC side of the field to near the IVC endline and sent in a cross to Carolyn Medina who's shot rattled off the crossbar.

After allowing 11 shots to the Lasers in the first half, the Warrior defense held IVC to only 3 shots in the second half.

After playing two games in consecutive days this week, El Camino College returns to action next Tuesday at 3:00 PM at Mt. San Jacinto College.
