TORRANCE, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors women's basketball team snapped a seven-game losing streak after defeating LA Harbor 59-57 at home on Friday evening.

The Warriors picked up their fifth win of the season and their first win in conference play.  The Seahawks lost their second conference game in a row.

With the Warriors top scorer, Brandy Castaneda in foul trouble for most of the game, the rest of the Warriors had to pick up the scoring effort.  For the second time this week, Christina Tsukahira led the Warriors offensive output.  She picked up the first double-double of her career with 20 points and 11 rebounds and also had 5 assists and 4 steals.  Mary Gonzalez had 10 points and 9 rebounds in the effort.  Castaneda, Teena Ponce, and Imani Taitt-Gibbs all had 8 points a piece.

The Warriors trailed 30-23 after the first half of play.  However, in the third quarter, the Warriors made up the scoring difference and took a 42-42 tie into the final period of play.

The Seahawks took the first lead of the 4th quarter after a three-point basket by Samaya Jackson.  However the Warriors would regain the lead on a basket by Taitt-Gibbs.  The Seahawks would tie the game one more time but the Warriors were able to hold on to a narrow lead the rest of the game.

Castaneda came up huge in the final minute of play after sinking two baskets.  After a basket by Jada Turner made it a 58-57 game there were 16 seconds left on the clock.  The Seahawks had to commit 4 fouls with 16 seconds left to send the Warriors to the free throw line.  Tsukahira sank one of the free throws to make it a 59-57 game. LA Harbor missed a 3-point attempt and on a rebound, Castaneda secured the game after making a steal on the final play of the game.

The Warriors will host Long Beach City College in their name game on Wednesday, January 25th.  Opening tip is set for 5:00 p.m.
