TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College opened South Coast Conference play with a 73-61 loss to visiting Cerritos on Wednesday night at the ECC Gym Complex.

The Warriors (4-15, 0-1) suffered their seventh consecutive defeat as turnovers proved costly. The home squad coughed up the ball 27 times, leading to 28 points for the victorious Falcons (9-11, 1-0).

Christina Tsukahira led the team with 26 points on 7-for-14 shooting, hitting 6-of-11 from beyond the arc along with a 6-for-8 night at the free-throw line. Brandy Castaneda added a double-double with 23 points and 16 rebounds but the rest of the team combined to shoot 5-for-19.

The Warriors carelessness with the ball was most evident in the second half as 19 of their 27 turnovers came in the final 20 minutes.

Despite the issues taking care of the ball, the Warriors were in the game throughout and trailed by just seven points with 3:12 left in regulation. But the Warriors managed to make just two field goals the rest of the way as the Falcons pulled away for the victory.

The Warriors will return to action on Friday evening as they host L.A. Harbor for a 5 p.m. tipoff.
