Warriors’ Winning Streak Snapped by Long Beach

TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College had its four-game winning streak snapped Wednesday night in a 60-52 South Coast Conference loss to Long Beach at the ECC Gym Complex.

The Warriors (9-13, 4-1) dropped their first conference game of the year and fell to second place in the SCC South standings with the loss. Ashley Nguyen led the Warriors with 22 points and eight rebounds while Taylor Hart added 11 and Alexia Mason recorded a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Donavion Huskey led the Vikings charge with 30 points and 28 rebounds with three steals and three blocks. Isabel Lizarraga scored 19 points with three assists and Ivori Scott hauled in 20 rebounds of her own in the victory.

The battle on the glass proved pivotal in the game as Long Beach outrebounded El Camino College 65-39 inlcuding a 24-15 edge on the offensive glass. It translated to points on the board for the Vikings as they had 26 second-chance points compared to just nine for ECC.

Neither team shot particularly well from the field as the Vikings shot 30.8 percent on the night including a 2-for-15 performance from beyond the arc. Meanwhile the Warriors shot just 26.8 percent while hitting 5-of-17 from 3-point range.

The Warriors return to action Friday night as they take on Compton on the road at 5 p.m.
