Bey, Hixon Commit to Play at the Next Level

El Camino College women's basketball sophomores Salihah Bey and Jordan Hixon will continue their athletic and academic careers following their time at ECC.

Bey will transfer to the Cal State Dominguez Hills to continue her academic and athletic career while Hixon will head to the University of St. Katherine in San Marcos, Calif.

A native of Oakland, Calif., Bey was stellar in her one year at ECC, earning an All-South Coast Conference First Team selection. She led the Warriors in scoring, averaging 18.8 points per game while playing in all 30 games for the team in the 2018-19 season. It was the second highest scoring average in a season for the ECC women's basketball program, behind only Erin Greenleaf's 20.1 ppg in the 1999-2000 season. Bey shot 46.7 percent from the field to lead the Warriors. She also led the team in rebounding, hauling in 9.3 boards per game, a mark that ranks sixth in Warriors history for a single season. Bey recorded a double-double in 15 of the 30 games she played for ECC.

The CSUDH Toros play in the NCAA, Division II and went 14-15 overall with a 10-12 mark in conference play last season.

Hixon will take her talents to USK after completing her career at ECC. Hixon also earned an All-SCC First Team selection and played in all 30 games for the Warriors. She averaged 7.6 points per game for the team and recorded 23 blocks, the second most on the team. She ranked second on the team in rebounding, grabbing 8.5 boards a game. She set a new career best with 20 boards on Jan. 18 at Bakersfield. She finished with five double-doubles on the season for the Warriors. In addition, Hixon tied for the team lead, averaging 2.4 steals per game and was second overall with 71 steals on the year.

In two seasons at ECC, Hixon played in 47 games overall and averaged 7.2 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game. Her career numbers in those categories rank seventh and ninth respectively in ECC program history.

The Warriors set a new single-season record in the 2018-19 season with 23 victories and a .767 winning percentage (23-7). They won their third consecutive conference title, the first three-peat in program history and first in the conference since Cerritos won three straight titles from 2008-10. The Warriors have now won four SCC titles in the past five years and six overall.
