Nguyen Headlines Warriors All-Conference Selections

Three-time defending South Coast Conference, South Division champion El Camino College racked up some more accolades as six players were named to the SCC, South Division All-Conference Team.

Freshman Ashley Nguyen received the team's top accolade as she was named the Freshman Player of the Year. The guard out of West Torrance High School played and started in all 29 games for ECC. She averaged 12.6 points per game and shot 68.6 percent from the free throw line. Nguyen averaged 4.8 assists per game for the year and picked it up to a 5.4 average during conference play. She also tied for the team lead with 2.4 steals per game.

Along with Nguyen, the Warriors had a total of six players selected to the 2018-19 SCC, South Division First Team.

Salihah Bey, Makenna Peneueta and Jordan Hixon all earned First Team honors along with Nguyen. Bey led the team in scoring (18.6 ppg) and rebounding (9.3 rbg) on the season. She recorded 14 double-doubles after starting in all 29 games for ECC. She shot 46.9 percent from the field and 71.9 percent from the free throw line.

Peneueta led the Warriors with a 5.0 assists per game average. She also averaged 1.5 steals per game to rank third on the team. She also started all 29 games for the Warriors.

Hixon was second on the team in rebounding (8.4 rpg) and set the team season high and new career high with 20 rebounds on Jan. 18 at Bakersfield. Hixon averaged 7.6 points per game on the year and recorded five double doubles on the season.

Brenna Wilson and Erika Carson rounded out the Warriors All-SCC selections, earning spots on the second team. Wilson played in 18 games after missing the first 11 with an injury. She would make nine starts on the year and averaged a career-high 7.3 points per game. She led the Warriors in 3-point percentage as she hit 36.5 percent from beyond the arc.

Carson played in 26 games and made 15 starts. She led the team with 1.3 blocks per game and also hauled in 5.2 rebounds per game on the season.

The Warriors will open the CCCAA Southern California Regionals this Friday when they host Glendale College at 7 p.m.
