Third Quarter Barrage Helps Warriors Defeat Long Beach

El Camino College used a big third quarter to pull away and eventually defeat Long Beach 61-47 in a South Coast Conference, South Division matchup Wednesday night at the ECC North Gym.

Salihah Bey recorded a double-double for the Warriors, leading the team with 25 points and 12 rebounds in the victory. She went 8-for-14 from the field and hit eight of her nine free throw attempts. Ashley Nguyen was the only other Warriors player to score double figures, scoring 11 points and dishing out four assists.

The game was close in the first half as the Warriors held on to a slim 29-28 lead at the break. But the team came out hot and eventually outscored the Vikings 22-9 in the third period to open up a 14-point lead, a margin that would hold through the remainder of the game.

The Warriors shot 8-for-14 in the third period. They also held the Vikings to just nine points in the third and forced seven Long Beach turnovers.

The Warriors will close out the season on Friday night as they host Compton College at the ECC North Gym. A victory would give ECC at least a share of its third straight South Coast Conference, South Division title. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
