Women’s Basketball Drops First Conference Game in Two Years to Cerritos

TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College struggled with its shooting at the free throw line and beyond the arc all night and fell to Cerritos 78-63 in a South Coast Conference, South Division tilt Wednesday night at the ECC North Gym.

With the loss, the Warriors (20-6, 6-1) fall into a first-place tie with the Falcons (17-10, 6-1) atop the SCC, South Divison. It was ECC's first loss in SCC, South Division play since they lost to Long Beach City at the ECC North Gym on Feb. 8, 2017.

The Warriors struggled mightily from distance, going just 3-for-22 from 3-point range and they also missed 11 of 19 free throws.

Ashley Nguyen led the offense for the Warriors with 19 points on 9-for-16 shooting. She dished out five assists and added four steals. Jordan Hixon recorded a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Jesenia Rendon led all scorers as she dropped 28 points and pulled in seven rebounds for the Falcons. Serena Rendon added 23 points and 12 boards, hitting 5-of-11 from beyond the arc.

The Warriors will look to bounce back Friday night as they visit L.A. Southwest for their last road game of the season. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
