Women’s Basketball Fends off Baksersfield on the Road

El Camino College edged Bakersfield 60-57 in a non-conference affair Friday night in a critical road contest.

The Warriors got a huge contribution from Jordan Hixon, who scored 11 points and hauled in a career-high 20 rebounds en route to victory. Ashley Nguyen led the Warriors with 13 points and added four steals and three assists. Erika Carson also scored 11 points and had two blocks while Salihah Bey scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

For the Renegades, Dasia Wandick led the way with 19 points in 35 minutes and Jasmyn Rodriguez added 18 points and nine rebounds.

The Warriors took care of the ball as they only had eight turnovers while forcing 16 turnovers from the Renegades. They also dished out 15 assists on 24 made baskets.

Despite being outrebounded 57-46, the Warriors managed to dominate the inside with a 40-22 edge in points in the paint.

The Warriors finish off non-conference play with a 14-5 overall record. They will open South Coast Conference, South Division action on Wednesday night as they host L.A. Harbor. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
