Warriors Advance to SCC Crossover Title Game with Win at Mount San Antonio

The El Camino College women's basketball team will play for another tournament title after defeating Mount San Antonio, 66-59, Wednesday night at the Mt. SAC Gym in the semifinals of the South Coast Conference Crossover Tournament hosted by the Warriors.

Salihah Bey led the way for ECC with 25 points in 38 minutes of action. She shot 11-for-20 from the field and hit three of her four free throws on the night. Ashley Nguyen pitched in with 19 points and three assists with two steals while Erika Carson hauled in 10 rebounds to lead the team.

With the victory, the Warriors will host the title game on Friday night against East Los Angeles after the Huskies defeated College of the Canyons in the other semifinal on Wednesday. The game will tipoff at 6 p.m. The Mounties will face Canyons in the third place game at ECC on Friday at 4 p.m.

On Wednesday, the Warriors opened up a 10-point lead in the first half and managed to hold onto it for the rest of the way despite being outscored 40-37 in the second half. The Warriors led by as much as 17 in the second half but the Mounties managed to claw back and trim the deficit to just two points with 3:23 left in regulation.

But the Warriors outscored Mt. SAC 9-4 in the final 3:23 to keep the Mounties at bay and lock down the victory.

The Warriors pulled off the win despite getting outrebounded 38-31. A key to that was limiting second-chance points as the Warriors outscored Mt. SAC 7-5 in that department while also holding a 17-13 edge in points off turnovers. Neither team shot it well from distance as the teams combined to go 3-for-21 from 3-point range on the night.
