Carson Leads All-Around Effort in Win over L.A. Valley

TORRANCE, Calif. – Erika Carson recorded a season-high in scoring as El Camino College downed L.A. Valley 68-59 Friday night at the ECC North Gym.

Carson logged 14 points and shot 7-for-10 from the field to lead the Warriors (12-4) in the opening round of the 2018-19 Crossover Challenge Tournament hosted by ECC. Salihah Bey added 13 points and eight rebounds while Brenna Wilson scored 12 points in 19 minutes off the bench.

For the Monarchs, Allison Gallardo led the way with 15 points and eight rebounds. Annette Avanessian scored 12 while Sophia Hughes and Rebecca Castillo scored 11.

The Warriors led wire-to-wire on Friday and were up by as much as 16 points. They shot 40.9 percent from 3-point range with Ashley Nguyen leading the team with three makes from distance.

With the win, the Warriors move on to the second round of the Blue Bracket where they will face the winner of the Mount San Antonio-Mount San Jacinto game, which will take place Saturday night at Mount San Jacinto.

If the Mounties defeat the Eagles on Saturday, the Warriors would travel to Mt. SAC on Jan. 9. If the Eagles win, the Warriors will host Mt. San Jacinto on Jan. 9 at the ECC North Gym.
