Women’s Basketball Takes Third Place at Wild West Shootout

El Camino College defeated Fullerton College, 63-60 to take third place at the Wild West Shootout hosted by West Los Angeles College.

The Warriors (2-1) had four starters reach double-figures and were led by Jordan Hixon's 16 points and five steals in 30 minutes of action. Ashley Nguyen added 15 points and a team-high six assists en route to earning a selection to the All-Tournament Team. Salihah Bey scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds while sophomore Makenna Peneueta pitched in with 10.

For the Hornets, Tristian Johns led the way with 16 points.

The Warriors outscored the Hornets 38-27 in the second half to overcome an eight-point halftime deficit. They trailed by a basket heading into the fourth quarter but outscored Fullerton 18-13 to secure the win.

Fia Tailele-Kakiva missed the game-tying 3-pointer with two seconds left and Bey secured the rebound for the Warriors to put the game away.

The Warriors will now be off until Nov. 21 when they take on Cypress on the road at 6 p.m.
