Warriors Fall to Irvine Valley

IRVINE, Calif. – El Camino College had a rough second half and it proved to be the difference in a 64-45 loss to Irvine Valley College in the semifinals of the IVC Tournament.

The Warriors (7-3) scored just 19 points in the final two periods of the game and shot 23.5 percent in the last 20 minutes to fall to the Lasers (8-2) for the second time in the last three games. Nao Shiota was the only Warriors player to tally double figures, scoring 12 points on 3-for-9 shooting. Micaela Enriquez scored nine points while Amiete Nyingifa added eight.

For the Lasers, Kasey Smit led the way with 16 points and 18 rebounds with Cydnie Dana adding 15.

The Warriors actually led at halftime, 26-23, but were outscored 20-13 in the third period. Things got much worse in the fourth as the Warriors scored just six points in the final 10 minutes, shooting an abysmal 15.8 percent from the field and missing all six 3-point attempts in the period.

The Warriors will now take on Grossmont in the third-place game of the IVC Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
