Three Players Tally Double Figures in Loss at Irvine Valley

Nao Shiota led all scorers but it was not enough as El Camino College fell to Irvine Valley, 60-57, Friday evening at Irvine Valley College.

Shiota poured in 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting and hit two 3-pointers for the Warriors (6-2), who dropped their second straight game after posting a six-game winning streak to start the season. Amiete Nyingifa scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Kayla Bibb added 10 points for ECC in the loss.

For the Lasers, Lexi Vail led the way with 16 points with Kasey Smit adding 14 and Elizabeth Garcia pouring in 11.

The Warriors were outscored 27-20 in the first half and played catch-up the rest of the way. They outscored IVC 37-33 in the second half but came up just short of a comeback despite outrebounding IVC 47-25 on the night. The long-distance game led down the Warriors as they hit just three shots from beyond the arc in 14 attempts.

The Lasers also got the job done at the charity stripe as they hit 18-of-30 from the line while the Warriors attempted 18 free throws, hitting 12.

The Warriors had issues holding onto the ball as they turned the ball over 26 times on the night, surrendering 24 points off those miscues while the Lasers tallied just 12 turnovers.

The Warriors will return to action at Irvine Valley on Friday night as they return to IVC for the Irvine Valley Tournament. They will face Barstow at 8 p.m. on Friday night.
