Bibb, Shiota and Nyingifa Keep Warriors Perfect at L.A. Valley

VALLEY GLEN, Calif. – El Camino College continued its hot start to the season with its fifth straight win to start the season, a 63-49 victory over L.A. Valley on Saturday night.

Kayla Bibb led with 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting in 33 minutes of action. Nao Shiota added 14 points despite an off shooting night thanks to a 9-for-10 day at the free-throw line while leading the team with five assists and Amiete Nyingifa notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

For the Monarchs, Rebecca Islas led all scorers with 26 points in a losing effort.

The Warriors gave up the first basket of the game to the Monarchs and then never trailed the rest of the way. Despite four ties, the Warriors never relinquished the lead and held off the Monarchs late to continue their undefeated start to the season.

With 25 seconds left, the Monarchs made it close as Islas drilled a 3-pointer to trim the Warriors lead to 59-56. But Shiota hit four consecutive free throws for the Warriors to ice the game and finish off ECC's five-game road trip to start the season with a perfect record.

The Warriors will now play two straight games at home beginning Tuesday when they host Cypress College at the ECC North Gym. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
