Men Finish First, Women Fourth at LBCC Viking Invitational

LONG BEACH, Calif. --- The El Camino College Track and Field team made its way to Long Beach on Friday afternoon for the LBCC Viking Invitational.

On the men's side, the Warriors took home first place with 114 total points to surpass the host Vikings (100 points) and 13 other teams.

Anthony Taylor continued his winning ways in the 110 hurdles as he took down first place with a time of 14.68 which currently ranks as the second-best time in the state.

Taylor was also a member of the 4x100m relay team with Izak Giacchetto, Matthew Irvine and Yuto Tamada that won the event with a time of 42.05.

Lotanna Muonagor won the high jump with a mark of 6 feet, 1 and ½ inches (1.87m) while Tamada won the 400m with a time of 48.92.

On the women's side, the Warriors finished with 76 total points to place fourth overall in a 15-team field. Thomas College (101), West LA (90) and LBCC (84) were the top three finishers.

For the Warriors, the highlights came in the distance runs as Sequoia Gonzales won the 800m with a time of 2:27.44. She was joined on the podium by teammates Ami Jacobson (2:31.74) and Arianna Hurtado (2:35.12) who finished in second and third place respectively.

Gonzales also won the 1500m with a time of 5:00.57 while Jacobson was seconed with a time of 5:06.52. Hurtado was fourth with a time of 5:25.36.

Other highlights from Friday included:

  • Dylan Bucher finished second in the javelin (161 feet, four inches; 49.18m)
  • Aaron Cohen finished second in the 5,000m (15:58.59)
  • Giacchetto placed second in the 110HH with a time of 15.46, the fifth fastest time in state
  • Joshua James placed second in the 100m with a time of 11.26.
  • Alexis Pitts finished second in the 100m with a time of 12.24, the seventh fastest time in the state.
  • Elaine Dugmore placed second in the 400 hurdlers (1:16.60)
  • Women's 4x400 relay team of Christine Adams, Jacobson, Hurtado and Gonzales finished second with a time of 4:30.83.
  • Nathan Albers placed third in the shot put (12.44m; 40 feet, 9 ¾ inches)
  • The men's 4x400 relay team of Irvine, Tamada, Ben Ali-Watkins and Timothy Coleman placed third with a time of 3:26.24.

The Warriors will return to action on Friday at the Redlands Invitational.
